Holman heads to NCAA

By Adam Amyotte

COCHRANE — The season didn’t end exactly the way we wanted it too but like they say with every door that closes another one opens.

Nothing could be truer for Brad Holman assistant captain of the Cochrane Crunch (formally the Elliot Lake Bobcats).

He has finally made the big decision and has committed to a University. That means the next 4 years of his hockey career are planned out for him.

He has committed to Morrisville State College and will play NCAA Division III hockey there.

“This has been a dream of mine and it is such a great honor to finally see my years of hard work come to fruition.”

Holman will study Business Administration at Morrisville.

I took a few minutes to have a conversation with an extremely excited young man today and here is what he had to say.

“I want to thank Coach/GM Lenny (Ryan Leonard) for guiding me the 2 years I was with the team.  With out his help it would have been very hard to make the right decision.  He didn’t do it all alone and I would like to take a few minutes to thank all the amazing volunteers that were working for the Organization.”

He also wanted to acknowledge his teammates for helping push him to an entire new level.

“I could not slack off on the ice when these guys were out there giving 120%. Playing on a great team like the Cochrane Crunch (formally the Elliot Lake Bobcats) only made me become a better player. Sharing the ice with these Guys was a true honor.  I will never forget my time with the Bobcats”.

But Brad wanted everyone to know that there was more to his decision to come back to play a second season then just the staff and the team.  His Billet Parents Barb and Gary Overland made playing hockey in Elliot Lake worth it.  “Barb and Gary made me feel at home from the first minute I walked through their door.”

He wanted to take the time to acknowledge his family and friends.

“These are the people that are sometimes forgotten but but without their sacrifices I would have never made it to where I am today”. The conversation ended on a great note with Brad saying, “I can’t wait to take on this new challenge in my life and I am ready to take on this new experience.”
