HTM Notice To Pro Players – Sweden

Hockey Talent Management, the gold standard in player adviser and agency services, issues the following notice for those American players interested in playing professionally in Sweden during the 2024-2025 season.

The Swedish Hockey Federation, has been making rule changes over the last two and a half years as they refer to both professional and junior hockey contracts.

In the 2023-2024 season, minimum salary and visa requirements for American players made the process of playing in Sweden much more difficult. The visa process alone can now take four to six months to process.

Canadian players have different visa requirements based upon agreements between the Swedish and Canadian governments.

For both countries, playing in Sweden will become more difficult moving forward. Visa, and minimum salary requirements to obtain a visa to play in Sweeden have been doubled for the 2024-2025 season. This doubling of salary requirements to obtain a visa also impacts each club as it doubles the taxes each club will have to pay on each import player.

For players looking to play in Sweden or anywhere else in Europe, Hockey Talent Management not only has the experience and contacts, but we stay ahead of the off ice issues that could effect you in the future.
