The Niagara IceDogs and Barrie Colts met last year in the first round of the playoffs and have made a major splash ahead of the 2025-26 season. The IceDogs have acquired Vancouver Canucks prospect Riley Patterson in exchange for five draft picks.
Patterson, a Vancouver Canucks Fourth-Round Draft Pick, was tied for the team lead last year with the Colts with 59 points (25-34–59) 64 games, registering an additional 12 points in 16 playoff games during the Colts’ playoff run. Patterson enters the 2025-26 season as his third season in the OHL and is looking to beat his 2023-24 campaign of 62 points (29-33–62).
“We’re excited to welcome Patterson here in Niagara,” says IceDogs General Manager Frank Evola.
Evola continues that Patterson will “add depth to our forward group, and we’re excited to see the energy he brings to the team.”
“We thank Riley for his two years in Barrie, and we wish him all the best in the future,” said Williamson. “With the amount of picks we received today, we feel we can help this team now and in the future.”
