Second-year Islanders Hockey Club Premier defenseman James Eyre was named Best Defenseman at the World Junior Division 1 Group A tournament. He played for Team France and led the entire tournament in assists by a defenseman with five. Team France won the Silver Medal at the event.

“Jaime has the ability to dictate how the game is going to be played. His skill, vision and compete level make everyone around him better,” said Islanders Hockey Club Head Coach Jay Punsky. “So it’s no surprise to us that he was selected as Best Defenseman at the World Junior tournament. We’re very proud of his accomplishments and happy to see him get the recognition he deserves.”

The Silver Medal was Eyre’s second in an IIHF tournament, having also won Bronze last spring with Team France at the World Under-18 Division 1 Group A tournament.

Eyre first joined the IHC in 2022-23 and played in 31 Premier games and earned 21 points, and also put up two points in two games. In 17 Premier games this season, he has 12 points and he’s also earned a call-up to the NCDC.
