The Toronto Jr. Canadiens became just the fourth wildcard entry to win an OHL Cup Final, overcoming a week of adversity to capture the 2025 championship on Friday evening.
Following in the footsteps of previous wildcard winners, including the 2022 Mississauga Senators led by OHL exceptional status player Michael Misa, as well as the 2017 Mississauga Reps and 2010 Mississauga Rebels, the Jr. Canadiens never wavered, staying united throughout the five-day tournament.
They secured their second championship in three years with a thrilling 3-2 victory against the Don Mills Flyers where Fischer Ishwaran delivered the late game-winner and reflected on the moment. “I just kind of ripped it. I had my eyes closed. I’ve been wanting this moment since I was a kid, it’s a great feeling. We’ve really bonded together, I love this team.”
Participating in his second OHL Cup, top Draft prospect Camryn Warren assisted on the game-winner and set a new tournament all-time points record. “Both tournaments have been so great. My teammates in both years have been unbelievable in helping me get to this point. This group never gave up, and it feels so good to get the job done,” said Warren.
Built on resilience, the Jr. Canadiens became the first team to win both the U14 OHL Cup and the OHL Cup under Head Coach Matt Viola.
Don Mills, seeking its first title since a dynasty 2019 run, entered the tournament Final battling injuries. Star defenceman Peter Green was sidelined, while Aleks Kulemin played only a few games. Despite their efforts, the GTHL champions fell just short in the final moments.
The Flyers conclude a strong season with titles at the Toronto Titans Prospects Tournament, Toronto Marlboros Holiday Classic, Oakville Rangers Winter Classic, and a GTHL Championship. Defenceman Caden Bell, Charlie Sullivan, and goaltender Noah La Gambina were named to the Gatorade All-Star Team.
JRC’s Warren earned 2025 OHL Cup MVP honours and joined teammate Noah Laus on the Gatorade All-Star Team as well.
With the showcase complete, the 2009-born OHL Draft-eligible players now shift their focus to the 2025 OHL Priority Selection, set for April 11 and 12.
