Junior Hockey To Replace CHL Arizona Sundogs?

As TJHN reported last week, the Central Hockey League’s Arizona Sundogs have folded.  In that report it was rumored that junior hockey may look to make a return to Arizona at some point.

Could “some point” be this season or next?

Gary Spiker, arena manager in Prescott Valley Arizona has stated Friday that “Today, I had a call from a junior hockey team out of Phoenix,”.

Currently there are only two junior hockey teams located in Arizona, both are members of the Western States Hockey League.  The 2014 WSHL Mountain Division Champions Phoenix Knights based out of Gilbert Arizona, and the Arizona Redhawks based out of nearby Peoria Arizona.

It would be an easy move for either of these teams should favorable lease terms be made available, one or both could potentially play games in Prescott Valley.  One source suggested that both teams could potentially play a handful of games to test the market.

Another source has reported to TJHN that a Tier II ownership group is also said to be looking at Prescott Valley for the 2015-2016 season.

TJHN will update this story as more information becomes available.
