KIJHL’s Nelson Leafs Coach Resigns Before Coaching A Game

With the KIJHL season just around the corner, and the Nelson Leafs exhibition schedule kicking off in just 36 days, the last thing the Leafs needed was to be without a head coach.

At the peak of recruiting season, when many Junior A teams are now or will soon be making cuts, players want to know who they could be playing for at the Junior B level.

Matt Hughes was announced as head coach just over sixty days ago.  He had yet to begin working with players, but the sudden departure will definitely force the Leafs to act fast and act find experience for the bench.

TJHN sources are reporting that Hughes has accepted a position with the Pursuit Of Excellence Hockey Academy, and that he notified the organization over the weekend that he was leaving.

TJHN will update this story as more information becomes available.
