COCHRANE, Ont. – Dustin Cordeiro’s third goal of the game 2:07 into overtime was the difference as the Cochrane Crunch clipped the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 6-5 Saturday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Tim Horton Event Centre.
Kirkland Lake got off to a fast start in this one notching a pair of shorthanded markers 16 seconds apart from Kameron Shearer and Jamey Lauzon.
Cochrane got one back via the power play as Jeran Knorr knocked in his 16th of the season at 8:18.
The second period saw the Gold Miners’ Logan Fredericks tack on two more to put the visitors up 4-1.
The Crunch answered that at 12:32 of the frame as Cordeiro notched his first of the night.
He then added another early in the third to make it 4-3 while John Stevenson tied it at 4:20 and he scored on the power play with Cordeiro assisting on the play.
Arthur Miller put Kirkland Lake back on top midway through the third only to see Aviv Milner force OT with 5:21 remaining in regulation.
In the extra session Cordeiro completed the Cochrane comeback with his third of the night and 23rd overall.
Brett Young made 34 saves to pick up the win for the Crunch while Victor-Olivier Courchesne saw 36 shots in defeat.
