Lewiston Has Hockey Again, Is This A Preview For The USHL? October 19, 2012 9:04 AM
Tonight the Portland Pirates will drop the puck at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston. This is technically the first home game for the Pirates and definitely a preview of how Portland can support hockey and the USHL. Because of ongoing renovations at the Cumberland County Civic Center, the Pirates won’t make their first appearance at the Portland facility until Nov. 2.
The Pirates will play against the Worcester Sharks tonight in the first of six AHL games scheduled for the Colisee this season.
As of 4 p.m. Thursday, less than 200 tickets were available for sale for Friday night’s game, according to Jim Mercier, box officer manager. This bodes well for any manuvering the Androscoggin Bank Colisee Ownership may use when trying to attract the USHL. If six games can be sold out, it will be hard for the USHL to ignore.
The Lewiston arena seats about 3,670 people, a near perfect size for USHL teams.
