Playing with eleven teams in the league made for some unbalanced and difficult scheduling at times. The 2014-2015 season will see that unbalanced scheduling go by the wayside.
St. Stephen New Brunswick has been approved for membership in the Maritimes Junior Hockey League.
The campaign to land a MJHL franchise began back in 2012, with a group of local citizens working with the leagues board of governors. Why the two year hold up? Well, you might just want to have an arena suitable for a junior team.
The brand new, state of the art, Garcelon Civic Centre is nearing completion and the yet to be named team will call it home.
Completion of the Garcelon Civic Centre has been four years in the making. Back in 2010, the Town of St. Stephen made an application for government assistance to build the arena. After approval and funding it was a matter of tearing down an old shopping center to clearing the debris and then begging the building process, it has helped to transform the area.
The nearly Twenty Million Dollar, 76,000 square foot facility will feature a 1,200 seat arena, aquatic center, and year round walking track for community use.
While the team may not have a name yet…New state of the art arena, new junior team, who wouldn’t want to play there?
