Mercer Chiefs Announce Kevin St. Jacques As USPHL Premier Head Coach

By Mercer Chiefs Staff

The Mercer Chiefs are excited to announce Kevin St. Jacques as the Head Coach for the Mercer Chiefs USPHL Premier team and Assistant Coach to the Mercer Chiefs NCDC team.

The Mercer Chiefs’ USPHL Premier team is joining the USPHL for their first season of play and will be located out of Ice Land Arena in Hamilton, N.J., along with the Mercer Chiefs’ NCDC team, which is relocating to Ice Land Arena for their third season of play.

St. Jacques, an Edmonton, Alb., native has an extensive hockey career including the four years he played in the Western Hockey League with Spokane and Lethbridge. In his last year in Lethbridge, Kevin led the league in scoring with 65 goals, 75 assists, 140 PIMs all in 71 games. He was a NHL draft choice of the Chicago Blackhawks.

More recently, St. Jacques has been the head coach of the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes at the USPHL Premier level where he has led his team to Nationals and brought home the
organization’s only National Championship.

“I’d like to thank the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes for the last five years, especially the coaching staff for the amazing chemistry we had which led us to season after season of success,” commented St. Jacques.

Coach St. Jacques looks to not only develop players on the ice but, more importantly develop them into good young men.

Mercer Chiefs GM and NCDC head coach Rob Broderick is ecstatic to welcome Coach St. Jacques to the impressive coaching line up with the Mercer Chiefs program as the Chiefs
continue to build a complete pathway from learn to play hockey all the way to juniors.

“I could not be happier to announce that Kevin St Jacques will be coming to the Chiefs!” said GM and NCDC Coach Rob Broderick. “Kevin is a great ‘hockey guy’ and his background as a coach, player, and teacher are as good as it gets. The best thing, in my eyes, is on top of everything, he is a great person and fits in perfectly with the culture here at the Chiefs. He will push all of our players to get better every day and he will do it in a positive and professional manner. This is a really good day for the Chiefs!”

“I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity I am being awarded by Black Bear Sports Group and the Mercer Chiefs to come into your family to help continue building an already successful program!” said St. Jacques. “I’m an extremely passionate hockey coach, who loves to be at the rink helping our players in any way that I can to follow their dreams as hockey players. I look forward to making the Mercer Chiefs my home away from home. I am very fortunate that my wife, Shannon and our family is supportive in allowing me to follow my dreams and do what I love to do everyday.”
