As the off-season nears its completion, a few additional post-secondary commitments from graduating MHL players have been announced.
In Truro, two members of the Bearcats have announced their educational plans, bringing the total number of commitments for the team this summer to four.
Forward Philip Fife will be attending the University of Waterloo in September. The native of Oromocto, New Brunswick recently finished his fourth and final MHL season by captaining the Bearcats to a Kent Cup Championship. A well decorated league alumni, Fife also captured a Fred Page Cup Championship with the Bearcats in 2013 as well as a Kent Cup Championship with the Woodstock Slammers in 2012. In 149 regular season games with the Slammers and Bearcats, Fife tallied 55 goals and added 94 assists. In 14 playoff games this past spring, Fife scored seven goals and added four assists.
Also from the Bearcats, Mitchell Robillard will be heading to the Univeriste de Moncton this fall. The forward from Laval, Quebec was acquired by Truro from the LHJAAAQ St. Leonard Arctic in January, 2013. In 50 regular season games with the Bearcats over the past season and a half, Robillard registered 53 points. Despite missing most of the second half of this past season and much of the postseason due to injury, Robillard made the most of his time in the lineup upon his return. Appearing in all six games of the Kent Cup finals, he scored twice and added three assists as the Bearcats defeated the Dieppe Commandos to claim the league’s top prize. Ironically, Robillard will join one his opponents from that Commandos club – forward Thierry Comtois – at U de M next month.
The Pictou County Weeks Crushers recently added another name to the list of league commitments this off-season with forward Nick Parker set to attend Royal Military College for the coming year. The Newport, Nova Scotia native led the Crushers in scoring during the 2013-14 regular season with 33 goals and 31 assists in 51 regular season games. In 11 postseason games, Parker recorded 11 points, including 10 goals, as the Crushers made an appearance in the Eastlink Division Finals. All told, Parker spent three seasons in the Crushers organization, scoring 87 goals and adding 93 assists in 152 regular season games. All told, Parker becomes the fourth Crusher to commit to a post-secondary institution as well as the third MHLer to commit to the historic Kingston, Ontario institution this off season, joining Summerside Western Capitals goaltender Simon-Pier Chamberland and Amherst Ramblers forward Bruce Hornbrook.
The MHL wishes to congratulate all of its graduating players on their future endeavors.
