Holy Cross goaltender and NCDC alum Thomas Gale has been named a semifinalist for the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) Mike Richter Award for 2025, announced Thursday afternoon. Since 2014, the Richter Award is given annually to the top goalie in men’s NCAA Division I hockey.
Gale is one of ten semifinalists from the six NCAA Division I conferences. The semifinalists were chosen by a panel of voters consisting of coaches from each conference, as well as members of the national media, professional scouts, and representatives of USA Hockey.
Three finalists will be announced in early March, and the winner of this year’s Mike Richter Award will be announced in April during the NCAA Frozen Four in St. Louis. For more details, check out the full HCA announcement HERE.
Gale’s Elite Numbers
On the season, Gale’s 17 wins lead all Atlantic Hockey netminders and rank tied for fourth nationally. He boasts a .929 save percentage, which is tied for the AHA lead and tied for tenth nationally, as well as a 2.12 goals-against average, which is third in the AHA and 15th nationally. The Kirkland, Quebec native has been outstanding in AHA conference play, as his 1.74 goals-against average and .940 save percentage are both tops in the league. He also has two shutouts in conference play.
Thomas Gale played two seasons in the NCDC (2019-21), competing for the Boston Junior Bruins and then the P.A.L. Jr. Islanders. He is third all time in wins with 45, part of an overall 45-9-0-3 record. He also finished with a 2.26 GAA and he is tied for sixth all time with a .935 career save percentage. That number is second all-time among NCDC goalies with multiple seasons played (Army’s J.J. Cataldo is first at .940.
