Editor’s Note: Ben Muthersbaugh is a former New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs NCDC player, who posted 34 points in 48 games during the 2021-22  NCDC season.

After leading the Union College men’s hockey team to a weekend sweep of Mercyhurst University, first-year Ben Muthersbaugh was named the ECAC Hockey Forward of the week, presented by Bluebird Hotels, and the #Bitcoin Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday, Oct. 21.

Muthersbaugh had a career weekend with seven points (3-4-7). The rookie scored his first two collegiate goals on Friday in a span of 11 seconds and completed the hat trick later in the game. Muthersbaugh added two assists for a five-point night to become the first Union skater to score five in a game since Mike Vecchione ’17 recorded five (4-1-5) on October 22, 2016. Muthersbaugh becomes the first Union rookie to score a hat trick since Daniel Carr ’14 recorded one in a 6-2 win against Army West Point on December 11, 2010.

The first-year added two more assists in Saturday’s win to cap off the seven-point weekend.

Muthersbaugh is the first Union rookie honored this season as well as the first forward recognized by the league.

He becomes the first Union rookie recognized since current junior John Prokop was honored for the second time on February 27, 2023 and the first forward honored since current senior Caden Villegas was recognized on March 11.

Union opens ECAC Hockey play on Friday, Oct. 25, with a trip down route 7 to visit Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Houston Field House.
