Week of Feb. 7, 2025
Games of Jan. 28-Feb. 3, 2025
Forward: Jared Rothman, Rockets Hockey Club
Rothman (‘06/Chappaqua, N.Y.) came out of the NCDC All-Stars event and went right back to work producing for the Rockets. In their Feb. 1 game against WBS, he wasted no time in putting together a hat trick, scoring three in a row in the first period. He also had an assist in that game. He has 47 points in 38 games this year.
Defense: Jake Stevens, Mercer Chiefs
It was a tough pill to swallow for Stevens (‘05/Newton, N.J.) when he missed the All-Star event due to illness, but he proved he was right back to full strength by putting up three assists in the Chiefs’ single game on Jan. 30, which was also a shutout win against the Jersey Hitmen. Stevens is a Middlebury College commit.
Goaltender: Cole Werthman, Mercer Chiefs
Werthman (‘06/Levittown, Pa.) is new to the Chiefs, but he made a quick impression by putting up a 40-save shutout win up against the Jersey Hitmen in his Mercer debut. He also followed that up with a second shutout of 35 saves to put his hat in the ring early for next week’s award.
Rookie: Ivan Zelenov, P.A.L. Jr. Islanders
Zelenov (‘06/Moskva, Russia) registered a goal and put up four assists over a two-game stretch for the Jr. Islanders. In his first North American season, he has 20 points in 45 games. A dual citizen of Austria and Russia, he represented Austria at the World Junior Championships Division 1A tournament, putting up two assists in five games there.
Selection Process: Team coaches first nominate players, the League sends back finalists, and coaches are then able to further vote on finalists or nominate other players.
