The South Shore Kings and Northern Cyclones both won their respective Division Semifinal series on Tuesday, setting up the official showdown for the New England Division title, which is set to begin on Tuesday, April 8.
The Kings defeated the Worcester Railers JHC in a three-game series, winning by scores of 5-2, 2-1 in overtime and 7-4 between March 29 and April 1.
By winning that series and sealing up their spot in the New England Division Championship series, the Kings also earned an automatic berth to the Dineen Cup Championship series, to be held April 25-29, in Wayne, N.J. They finished with the top overall winning percentage in the regular season, and would be the finalist with the highest winning percentage from among the four Atlantic and New England Division finalists.
The Cyclones went to four games against the Utica Jr. Comets, winning in Utica on Tuesday. The Cyclones won 4-3 in overtime in Game 1 on March 28, following that with a 4-1 win the next day. Utica defeated the Cyclones in overtime on March 31, 3-2, before the Cyclones came back and won 4-0 on Tuesday to seal up the 3-1 series win.
In the regular season, the Northern Cyclones won the season series against the Kings by two points, 4-2-1-0 for nine points vs. the Kings’ record of 3-3-1-0 for seven points.
