SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that Hunter Atchison and Dustin Cordeiro of the Cochrane Crunch and Matt Pinder of the Soo Thunderbirds have been named the initial 3 Stars of the week for the time frame running from Sept. 11 through Sept. 20, which includes the opening weekend of the season.
HUNTER ATCHISON, (F) COCHRANE CRUNCH – The first-year forward from Victoria, B.C. has been an offensive force early in his tenure in the NOJHL.
In his first four outings, Atchison has amassed an incredible 18 points on six goals and 12 assists helping Cochrane start the campaign 4-0.
His efforts also place him atop the league leader board in both assists and points.
DUSTIN CORDEIRO, (F) COCHRANE CRUNCH – The veteran forward from Kitchener, Ont., has taken up where he left off in the NOJHL last season and that’s filling the net.
Through his first four games the Crunch standout has scored 10 times, giving him 93 overall in his first 150 NOJHL outings.
Cordeiro also picked up an assist for unbeaten Cochrane.
MATT PINDER, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – The 20-year-old Pinder, who skates for his hometown team in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., has set the tone early for the defending NOJHL and Dudley-Hewitt Cup champion Thunderbirds.
Pinder’s exploits has aided the Soo soaring to a 5-0 start in league play as he has tallied six times and doled out three assists along the way.
His tally total leads the T-Birds and ties him for second overall in that department and he currently leads his team in total points.
