The stories out of North Bay Ontario keep on getting more confusing rather than being cleared up. Is it silly season already?
TJHN reported yesterday that the City of North Bay was not going to renew the lease with the NOJHL’s North Bay Trappers. While it still appears that could potentially be true, the reason for the non renewal may not be as clear as David Beauchamp made it appear to be. Ummmmmm yeah like not even close to being the truth maybe? HA HA HA
While it is no surprise that the Trappers have struggled at the gate and that twice this season, the Trappers have been given an ultimatum to pay up on late fees or be locked out of the rink in advance of a scheduled NOJHL game. The announcement from Beauchamp yesterday took the NOJHL Commissioner and City of North Bay by surprise.
Reports out of North Bay now contend that after meeting last week, that the NOJHL and the Trappers had agreed to finish the season in North Bay and the team would stay on a payment plan with the city for over due ice bills.
Beauchamp is now backing off his statement that he would look to move the Trappers immediately and has allegedly told the city the team will finish the season in North Bay.
If all of this sounds strange to you, it is because it is very strange. Both the City and the NOJHL had no idea this press release was going to be issued by the Trappers. Not exactly typical for a team to announce they are moving without the league being aware of things.
Stranger still is that Beauchamp is now saying the city is not kicking the team out of the arena.
Beauchamp is now stating that there is not enough sponsorship or fan support to afford to pay the prime time ice fee’s that he agreed to pay. Well, it wasn’t going to take a brain surgeon to figure out that with the OHL’s Battalion moving to North Bay this season that sponsorships and ticket sales would be just a little harder to come by.
Hmmmmmmmm yeah, lets continue to operate our small hardware store while Home Depot is opening up across the street……Sure Bob that makes a lot of sense! HA HA HA
If the comments on local North Bay news sites are anything to go by, this whole idea has been a train wreck from start to finish. When people in the community in large part are saying things that probably wouldn’t make your mom proud of you, it might just be time to pay attention to what they are saying.
Or then again, you could always write your own press release and publish it to try to gain sympathy for the mistakes you made. HA HA HA Oooooops tried that one already? HA HA HA Or you could maybe take your ass kicking like a man, admit your mistakes and move to a new city next year. Nahhhhhh that would resemble the actual principles within the game, and we sure cant set those good examples for the young men on the team now can we?
