The Blainville-Boisbriand Armada came within a game of advancing to the Gilles-Courteau Trophy Final last year. While the fans carry those memories forward, there are many people now in the fold who weren’t part of the experience just a few months ago.
The turnover in Blainville will be vast. Due to various factors, exactly one of the team’s top ten scorers from last year will be back with the club to start the season; center Matt Gosselin. He’ll be joined by fellow returnee Torkel Jennersjo, who has established himself as a pesky, hard-working presence in the Armada lineup, as well as Elliot Dubé, who begins his first full season with the club. Along with these familiar faces will be numerous newcomers to the organization, including skilled American center Mason Moreland, formerly of the WHL Saskatoon Blades, Russian winger Andrei Milyayev and 2026 third overall pick Jacob McKinnon.
Defenseman Olivier Filaj will return to lead the play away from the puck, bolstered from experiencing unexpected minutes on a talented but injury-plagued Armada squad last season. The club also went shopping for both veteran presence and raw skill for the blue line this past summer, acquiring overager Logan Brennan and rookie Camden Jackson from Québec and Moncton, respectively. A blockbuster trade on the draft floor in June sent former Mooseheads netminder Nicolas Gillham-Cirka to the black and white.
Two other new arrivals are set to commence their first season in Blainville as well, both with long-term results in mind. In July, the club was sold to Irvine, California businessman John Moreland. That same month, the club announced the hiring of Pierre Dagenais as its General Manager. This is the former star QMJHL player’s first such posting in the league after several year of running successful hockey performance clinics. If their success in their respective fields is any indication, then the group playing under this new ownership and management should have a rewarding road ahead.
