Parekh becomes Spirit’s all-time leading point producer on the blueline

Saturday marked a historic night in Saginaw as third-year blueliner Zayne Parekh carved out another piece of Saginaw Spirit history in a 6-2 win over the Guelph Storm.

A commanding five-point performance featured the Calgary Flames prospect’s third career OHL hat-trick as he passed Patrick McNeill for first on the club’s all-time list of point producing blueliners, finishing the game with 184 (70-114–184) over 152 regular season games.

Parekh opened the scoring for Saginaw, picked up an assist on Michael Misa’s first goal of the night, scored 4:37 into the second period and broke the club record on another Misa tally, this one coming 1:04 into the third period. He completed his hat-trick at the 10:35 mark of the third.

Taken by the Spirit with the 19th overall pick of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection, Parekh has developed into a franchise cornerstone, being named OHL Defenceman of the Year in 2023-24 before hoisting the Memorial Cup on home ice in June. He was a first round (9th overall) pick by the Calgary Flames last summer.

The 6-foot, 185Ib. right-shot defender from Nobleton, Ont. has 51 points (16-35–51) through 36 games on the Spirit blueline this season, good for the third-most by an OHL defenceman so far in 2024-25.
