Redhawks Report

Redhawks sign five players for camp. Brandon Bavis (F) from Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, Justin Deveaux (G) from Waltham, Massachusetts, Joshua Smith (D) from Highland, Michigan, Hayden Miller (F) of Portland, Oregon and Brian McDonald (D) from Winnipeg.

Training Camp will open at AZ Ice in Peoria on August 20th at 10:15 am. We will be on the ice from 11:15-12:15 and 1:40-2:40 pm both the 20th and 21st. On the 22nd we will be on the ice from 6:20-8:20 pm for a complete scrimmage for those invited. The team hotel is the Ramada Inn on Grand Avenue in Peoria and rooms with 2 queen beds will run $50 a night (tax included) so we recommend you grab a roomie and split the cost. We’re expecting 35-40 players in camp and will be keeping 25. Be sure you are in shape!

The Redhawks’s 2014-2015 season begins with an exhibition game at home against the Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks (ACHA D-2) on September 19th and then faces off against the San Diego Gulls for a three-game weekend on October 3rd thru 5th. Besides Opening Night festivities, the weekend series against our division rivals will include Elvis Night on Saturday (get “all shook up” with the King himself) and then our salute to hockey moms everywhere Sunday afternoon. The 21 regular season home games will include special nights saluting the airline industry, the Amish, the Great White North, the Upper Midwest, Al Capone, the Blues Brothers, Ghostbusters, zombies and some fan winning a date with Brandon Bavis.

The RedHawks have partnered with the Association for Science in Autism Treatment for this season and will be collecting donations and spreading the word about treatment programs for this spectrum disorder. We are proud to be a part of this worthy organization out of Hoboken, New Jersey and look forward to helping them.

The Western States Hockey League has determined that ALL players from North America (US, Canada and Mexico) qualify as non-imports which mean that WSHL teams can have an unlimited number of Canadian players.

From the Coach: These are the things that make us a successful franchise-

  • The Weather – the weather here will be hot when you get here in August (115 degrees) but the winter months are really nice at 70 or so degrees. Christmas we were wearing shorts!!

  • Our Schedule – we travel to California and Nevada and we also are the only Junior league that plays 3 game weekends
  • Our League Showcase – in Las Vegas right before the Christmas break, had 85 College Scouts in attendance
  • Our Commitment to move players – we moved all of our 20 year olds to college last season
  • Ice time – we are on the ice at practice 8 1/2 hours a week; we also have film review on Mondays
  • Gym Membership – all our players have one and a coach oversees the progression
  • Our Billet Families – we are fortunate to have one of the best Billet systems in Junior hockey
