TIMMINS, Ont. – A Kyle Levis goal with 7:47 remaining proved to be the game-winner as the Timmins Rock defeated the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-2 Wednesday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at McIntyre Arena.
After a scoreless opening period, Timmins struck twice on the power play in the middle frame to go up by a pair.
Devin Panzeca’s team-leading ninth of the season gave the Rock the lead 31 seconds into the frame while Zachary Kercz buried his eighth at 5:15 to make it 2-0.
Kirkland Lake got one back at 7:05 of the second when Brandon Wolfe beat Timmins starter Logan Ferrington in picking up his fifth goal of the campaign.
The score stayed that way until Levis’ effort put the home side back up by two.
Tristan Salesse then joined Panzeca with the club tally lead at 15:44 as he notched his ninth marker of the season for Timmins to make it a 4-1 game.
In the late going the Gold Miners added the final tally of the night with 20 seconds remaining thanks to Joel Fortin to round out the scoring.
Ferrington was solid as a rock in the Timmins net as he made 43 saves in recording the win.
Marc Audet faced 37 shots in defeat for Kirkland Lake.
