TIMMINS, Ont. – Joey Miller scored once and set-up two others to help power the Soo Thunderbirds to their 12th straight win, a 6-3 triumph over the Timmins Rock, Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at McIntyre Arena.
Ryan Theriault did give Timmins the early lead as he scored during a man advantage opportunity at 3:46 as he picked up his 10th tally of the campaign.
The Thunderbirds countered by tallying twice before the stanza was complete one power play effort from Matthew Caruso at 8:56 and one at even strength by Matthew Mitchell with seven seconds left in the period.
Sault Ste. Marie took control of the contest by striking three times in middle frame with Matthew Busby and Jaren Bellini sandwiching man advantage markers around a shorthanded effort by Brett Jeffries.
Tristan Salesse’s 14th goal of the season brought the Rock closer 3:39 into the third, but Miller answered that with his eighth midway through the period.
Jordan Rendle of Timmins finished off the night’s scoring with 3:31 to go via the man advantage as he notched his 11th overall.
Caleb Boman and Zach Senecal had two assists apiece for the T-Birds in the triumph.
Nathan Warren finished with 37 saves in earning the win for the Thunderbirds while Matthew Nixon saw 31 shots fired his way in defeat for the Rock.
