For the second straight year, Rockets Hockey Club veteran left winger Jonas Dobnig is playing for Team Austria at the World Junior Championships.
Dobnig, who played in all four games at the 2022 tournament a year ago and scored a goal, returned to suiting up for “Ostereich” on the ice in the 2023 tournament taking place at Halifax, N.S., and Moncton, N.B.
He has been suiting up for the Rockets Hockey Club since the start of the 2021-22 season. He put up a 2-12-14 line in 37 games last year, and has a 4-6-10 line in 26 contests so far in the 2022-23 NCDC season.
Originally born in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., in 2004, Dobnig has spent most of his life in Austria and played with the EC-KAC U18 club for a couple seasons and also earned a game with the second division KAC team in the Alps Hockey League. He got his start in international hockey at a young age, playing in the Quebec International Peewee Tournament for Team Austria.
While he played for the Rockets last season, he not only represented Team Austria at the WJC Under-20, he also represented Austria at the 2022 World Under-18 Championships, posting four points in four games. He was named the Top Player for Team Austria at that tournament.
More to come…
