Roy, Clouthier lead Eskimos over Voodoos

POWASSAN – The Abitibi Eskimos trio of Brennan Roy, Brady Clouthier and Brenden Locke combined for 14 points as they rolled over the Powassan Voodoos 9-4 Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Roy scored five times in the romp while Clouthier doled out five assists and Locke had four helpers of his own to lead Abitibi.

The Eskimos came out flying in the opening period scoring six of the seven markers supplied in the stanza.

Roy, Jake Holland and Roy again staked the visitors to a 3-0 early on before Steve Harland got one for Powassan to extend his amazing consecutive game point streak to 29 and counting, eight minutes into the contest.

Answering right back Abitibi tacked on three more tallies to take control of the contest on efforts supplied by Tristan Salesse, Ryan Attwood and Roy.

Harland’s second of the night and 40th goal of the season cut into the visitors lead at 11:15 of the middle stanza before Roy hit the hat trick with a power play effort on the next shift.

Patrick Picard added another for Abitibi with 92 seconds to go in the frame to make it 8-2 after 40 minutes.

A man advantage effort supplied by Jake Staples in the third and on at even strength courtesy of Nathaniel McLeod brought the Voodoos closer only to see Roy cap off his five-point night with his fifth tally of the evening at 17:10 to round out the scoring.

Logan Ferrington made 37 saves to pick up the win for the Eskimos.

Jack Ondrovic was saddled with the loss for Powassan.
