Screaming Eagles Soon Cooling Off At Training Camp

It may only be mid-summer but the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles will soon begin an early start to its Quebec Major Junior Hockey League 2014-15 campaign.

The team released its nine-day training camp schedule Friday. All practices are open to the public.

Players will hit the ice at Centre 200 on Aug. 9 and break camp on Aug 17 following an exhibition match at home against the Halifax Mooseheads.

The Screaming Eagles will continue preparing for the new season with a trip to Russia where they will represent the Canadian Hockey League at the Junior Club World Cup in the city of Ufa. The team is scheduled to play two exhibition games in Moscow prior to the tournament which runs Aug. 22-30.

Two young Russian players, Maxim Lazarov, 18, and Evgney Svechnikov, 17, will be skating for the Screaming Eagles this season.

Following the Russia trip, Cape Breton will play an exhibition match against Halifax on Sept. 6 at the Emera Centre in North Sydney.

The Eagles kick off the 2014-15 season on the road with matches against Moncton on Sept. 12 and Acadie-Bathurst on Sept. 13.

Cape Breton is expected to announce its training camp roster next week.

The team’s home opener will take place at 7 p.m. on Sept. 19 against Charlottetown. The two teams meet again on Sept. 20 in Sydney.
