In what some are considering a shocking loss, Team Canada lost 6-5 to Finland in the quarter-finals at the world junior hockey championships today and was eliminated from the tournament.
Penalties are what cost Canada, with Finland’s Patrik Laine blasting a slapshot into the Canadian net for a 6-5 Finnish lead on a 5 on 3 powerplay in the 3rd.
From the outset of the WJC, Canada looked disorganized in their breakouts, and confused in the offensive zone. Team passing was off the mark all tournament, and their systems did not appear to be working for them, or the players didn’t understand them.
The questions now being asked by fans on many chat and message boards, revolve around asking why this team was picked when other players could have made the roster to, asking why the team was so undisciplined.
Meanwhile, Team USA leads the Czech Republic 4 to 0 half way through the second period and is looking to face Russia in the next round.
Finland will play Sweden Monday in the semifinals
