With a three year agreement in place the Pre Draft Combine began yesterday at LC Walker Arena in Muskegon Michigan. A first class facility suited for the United States Hockey League’s Muskegon Lumberjacks was seen as the ideal location for the event as it continues to grow.
Day one was purely about getting the players settled in, getting them through both on and off ice testing, and getting the goaltenders prepared.
The Pre Draft Combine is the oldest event of its kind in North America. It is the “players event”, featuring the players ability, while educating parents and players on the path toward NCAA hockey.
After players were checked in, off ice testing began. Provided by Zybek Sports, the world leader in combine testing innovation, “explosive power” measurement was the phrase that ruled the day.
Followed by off ice testing measuring speed, agility, reaction time, and explosive power, players were tested simulating “in game” play situations. These tests are like no other in the industry as static timing and measurement does not capture the players true ability.
A goaltender training session followed, which was conducted by Dave Desander and Future Pro Goaltending. Providing a glimpse of what these young goaltenders will need by way of training in order to reach the next level.
Day one of the Pre Draft Combine closed with the first of many educational seminars. The initial seminar focused on Goaltenders, and the multiple paths they can take to NCAA hockey, as well as the obstacles they may face, with examples of some players who have taken different paths.
