The Death Pool – Free Agency Changes Coming To Pay To Play Teams In US And Canada

Ohhhhhhh yeah, nothing like Monday morning eh kids?!  Summer, beach, and all kinds of changes happening in junior hockey in the US and Canada.

So, yeah, you know how you play for a team and the team owns your rights in that league for the following year?  Sometimes the team actually owns your rights across the country if your talking about Canada.

Well kids, the craps gonna hit the fan soon when it comes to that.  Oh and yeah, and there might just be some changes coming to  the “compensation” teams receive when players move from league to league and country to country.

See someone finally figured it out that if a player is paying to play, he is paying for his development.  Imagine that kids someone actually recognizes that you are paying the bills.

Yep, it turns out that if you actually pay for your play, your paying for your development as a player, and oooooops, the team doesn’t deserve to get a development fee paid to them if you leave the next season!

Oh yeah for those that don’t know, this is a long standing scam of pay to play teams.  Yep, player moves up, and then the team that had him the year before requests “development compensation”.  Sometimes its as little as a couple hundred bucks, sometimes its thousands of dollars.

So wouldn’t it be cool if every player in the US and Canada who paid to play hockey were a complete free agent at the end of each season?  Yep, if you charge the player, the player can chose if he wants to leave the following season.  No more trading player rights or some of the other garbage that happens.

It kinda makes sense don’t you think?  I mean if a team charges $1500 bucks in the first year, the player pays and goes through the year, the season ends and the player leaves.  Why should the player be forced to go back to that team the next year when they jack their player fee up to $3000 bucks?!

Who is any team to tell any player who is paying their own way where they can play, and how much they have to pay?

There is no other business in the world that can force anyone to pay more than they want or they don’t get to buy the product from someone else.

Well those days are likely soon coming to and end.

See there are just too many pay to play teams that are putting in ridiculous price hikes each year.  Know where those players are going when this happens?  That’s right kids, they are going to un-sanctioned leagues.

Like so many pay to play teams are now complaining that there aren’t enough players, its gonna get even harder on you pretty soon.  Whats gonna happen when at the end of each year, bad operators lose the ability to force players to re-sign because they didn’t do the right thing the year before?

In Canada it gets even better.  What is going to happen when every player becomes a free agent at the end of each season?  That’s right kids.  Except for major junior, and completely free to play teams, the flood gates to free agency are going to open each spring.

Good stuff for those parents writing the checks, even better stuff to make some team operators more accountable to keeping their promises.

But hey, we got us a sale on grave yard plots this week.  That’s right kids, group pricing is now available.  Leagues can buy multiple burial sites in advance and receive the discount of only having one Death Pool story written about them.  Ha Ha Ha

See ya soon boys and girls, its going to get fun here pretty soon……
