The Death Pool – False Commitment And Development Claims Lead To False Promises

Oh yeah kids, its another beautiful Monday morning.  Playoffs are either in full swing, or ending for many leagues which means recruiting season is already open.

I just love recruiting season.  I mean its the best and worst of the junior hockey season.  So, in honor of this recruiting season I went ahead and set up a dozen fake player profiles on some of the most popular junior hockey recruiting websites!  Yeah, you know to catch some of the bullshit artists.

I did this because of a few things.

First, we are getting tons of emails sent to us asking if the recruiting email they received is what it says it is.  Second, I went through a bunch of team websites over the last few weeks to look at all their player promotion claims and found a lot of claims that just aren’t true!

Guess what kids, a commitment to Arizona State hockey isn’t always a commitment to the new NCAA program.  Arizona State still has an ACHA program.  But you know, people just assume its the NCAA program so why bother setting the record straight on the team commitment page.  Oh yeah, and the University of Arizona isn’t Arizona State!

You might also want to know that just because some players are listed to commit to a school, doesn’t mean they are actually going to play hockey for the school!  Crazy I know, that people would actually do this right?!

Going just a little bit further, you might want to look at how many of those committed players actually play games for the school listed as a commitment.  Yeah, like being on a roster and getting in one game a year is a legitimate commitment claim?

How about all the NCAA D-3 commitments who never play for the school.  Oh yeah, just a hint for you kids, you are trying out for D-3 teams, because there is no athletic scholarship attached to the commitment, you got no guarantees to make any roster.

So I am pretty sure with all my fake profiles I am going to catch a lot of awesome claims being made that just wont pan out.

Little clue for you kids too, when you get an email from a junior team, unless you’re already seen as a top performer in a good league, don’t go thinking its anything more than an email.  Top teams don’t go after average or below average players.  Be honest in your view of yourself.

So, with recruiting season, expansion season and a whole bunch of other stuff I am working on, this should turn out to be a fun spring and summer!

Oh yeah, I don’t want to forget.  We may already have an expansion death to report real soon!  Shovels in the dirt boys!
