Hey kids, happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend like I did. Nothing like some good rest and relaxation, well if you call polishing some caskets restful and relaxing that is! Ha Ha Ha
So, seriously kids, I was at a few games this weekend and its amazing what you can overhear when you just stand near a coach who is trying to recruit a player from Tier II to come to his Tier III team. I mean seriously, some of the crap they spew is amazing. Time to come up with some new material guys!
If you find yourself being cut from the NAHL or Junior A in Canada, don’t fall for the typical bullshit lines boys. You know, ones like:
“We will be pushing to send you up every week.”
“We will develop you and get you ready to move back up.”
“If you want to win a championship, this is the place to be.”
“We get great fan support.”
Those are pretty much the standard recruiting lines. The problem is, most of the time their bullshit lines. Unless a team will put it in writing that they will move you up, not request compensation from the team calling you up, and give you a full and unconditional release, don’t believe a word they say.
No one cares who wins games or championships at the Tier III level kids. No one even remembers who won them a few years later. No one cares how many fans go to games either.
If you find yourself having just been cut from a team, make them put it in writing. If they wont put it in writing, don’t sign. Pretty simple rule to live by. Don’t worry, someone will put it in writing eventually, and there are enough Tier III teams looking for players to fill a pretty big office, so you don’t have to worry about not finding one.
The real teams move kids on, and they can show you a track record of doing it. Don’t believe the other ones. And if you run into one of these idiots making false promises, just shoot us an email so we can publish their names!
