The Death Pool – Finland Fires Head Coach While At World Juniors – Special Report

So yeah, how would you like to win the World Juniors one year, then have three of your countries best players not on your team because they are just a little busy playing in the NHL and AHL?  Talk about a kick in the sack!

So, you get on your flight to Canada looking to defend your championship and you get your ass handed to you in your first three preliminary round games.  Yep, not exactly smooth sailing for that title defense.

Do you think NHL rookie sensation Patrik Laine, Jesse Puljujarvi of the Edmonton Oilers and Kasperi Kapanen with the Toronto Marlies might have made a difference?  Yeah maybe just a little bit.

But hey, the Finnish Ice Hockey boys don’t want to hear any excuses.  Just because your top three players aren’t playing doesn’t mean you shouldn’t win.  So, your fired.

Jukka Rautakorpi is going to have a real long flight home now.

Jussi Ahokas gets to take over the team now.  Yeah, how would you like to take a team over that is the first in history to win the World Junior tournament one year and then have to relegation games the next year?  Ummmmmm yeah, not so much.

On a positive note though, Rautakorpi has been offered a job coaching the winless Buffalo Regals in the GOJHL.

Happy New Year everyone!
