Hey kids, Happy Holidays! Yep, right about now, most of you are either home or on the way home. Holy hell has it been an exciting year here in the death pool, and I don’t think were quite done yet……….But more on that later…….
So I would be remiss if I didn’t thank those idiots who got our summer started off so well with all the expansion pipe dreams.
The biggest bomb of the year award has to go to the CIJHL, and its founder Jason Nadeau. Six junior teams, one location, all the facilities you need all in one operation! The hockey utopia! People bought in too! Only problem was utopia didn’t exist physically, and the pipe dream blew up.
Then we got the good old NPHL, or NorPAC depending on who you talk to. Yes sir, they tried to add multiple expansion teams this year after failing to make expansion happen the year before! Two strikes there kids!
The well established WSHL took its swing at expansion too and struck out miserably. Arena closures, and just some bad operators can do that too you though. Then again you don’t have to sell a franchise to everyone that has a checkbook either.
Toss in the MWJHL for good measure with the typical summer upheaval, expansion teams not launching, and teams folding mid season have just become standard operating procedure.
Perhaps the biggest bomb of the year came from the MNJHL. Adding one expansion team to only have three of your existing teams go dark wasn’t exactly a great move eh boys?! Now, everyone is leaving the MNJHL party too! Did you ever think that league leadership is part of the reason these teams are bolting for the USPHL? Nahhhhhhh it couldn’t be. Ha Ha Ha
Honorable mention has to go to the SIJHL’s now dead Wisconsin Wilderness. Not sure why its called an “honorable mention” in the case. In this case it was really over last season but dragged on enough into the summer to keep me entertained.
Then what do you know, last Friday the “ownership” of the NAHL’s Keystone Iceminers “resigns” its membership in the NAHL. Yep, they resigned alright. Resigned before they got kicked out is what that really means. With a trail of mismanagement that leads back to Port Huron Michigan, time finally ran out.
There were so many things that happened this year for us to think about huh kids?! I mean really, what a boring year would it have been if not for the constant string of idiots who think they know what they are doing? Yep, I got me a check book and I’m gonna buy myself a hockey team. I don’t have the first clue how to run it, but my town has an arena and they will sell me ice, and my kid needs a place to play next year so lets do this thing!
Awesome year kids. Like I said from the beginning, I don’t think the year is quite over yet either. Look for a special report real soon……just waiting on some details.
