Happy Monday morning kids! Hope everyone had as good a weekend as I did. Spent the whole weekend running down stories and scouting some awesome Midget AAA in Detroit at the Tier 1 Elite league event.
Well as we have been reporting here on the USA Hockey annual winter meeting, it turns out that there was a lot of stuff going on.
I have a question though; What ever happened to the moratorium on Tier III expansion? Ummmmm yeah I think that thing disappeared like a bad fart! Only like a fart the smell is still lingering!
Oh yeah, so although USA Hockey would love to see no more Tier III expansion teams there is nothing they can do. Yep, the inmates are running the asylum so to speak. See, if a league approves an expansion team it just gets voted on by the junior council.
Boom, the junior council is made up of junior team owners. And the only times new teams don’t get approved is usually when one league has a territory dispute with another league. Even then, some leagues still win based on their political power.
So, by my count there is going to be at least 8 new Tier III teams entering al already over saturated market. Yep, 200 more Tier III roster spots to fill, and there aren’t another 200 extra players hitting the market next year.
We got 2 expansion teams for the RMJHL, 2 for the USPHL, 1 of the EHL, and three for the NA3HL. There might be more too.
Oh yeah, and don’t let me forget. It looks like the Ironwood Fighting Yoopers application to come back to the USPHL was also approved. Hey, I don’t like the name either, but at least the guy went dark last year in an up front way. But seriously, a team called the Fighting Yoopers in a league that doesn’t allow fighting doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Maybe they should be renamed the Tickling Yoopers?! Ha Ha Ha
So what’s gonna happen when Tier II expands and takes more players out of the Tier III market? Ummmmmm yeah, we got the whole annual summer shit show of teams folding again! I love when people make my job easy.
I mean seriously guys. I have heard some of you leagues crying about how hard I am on you when teams get buried. Well, if it bother you, how about you dummies just stop expanding?! Then all I would have to write about is stupid human tricks people try to pull off.
So, I wish to thank you all in advance for what I am sure is going to be another record breaking year for us here at TJHN. Yep, last year you guys helped me get over two million page views. If I could send you a box of black roses I would, but hey its just not in the budget.
