Clarvoient? No. Predictable and obvious to any person with any real hockey business experience? Definitely.
Darren Anderson. A name that is synonymous with unpaid bills, side deals, cash under the table, declining credIt cards, and generally terrible business practices that left dozens of people holding the bag. The crown jewel of his fast rising and now quickly disappearing empire is no longer his, and no longer in the North American Hockey League.
With millions of dollars in question in various lawsuits in South Carolina, and tens of thousands of dollars in unpaid bills and wages in Lewiston Maine, it was only a matter of time before things caught up with Anderson.
What does this mean for the Carolina Range NA3HL team? With the Ice Station in Greer South Carolina tied up in claims for judgements against it and Darren Anderson, the Rage are likely done as well. That is unless there is another “savy investor” looking to make a financial killing in the NA3HL.
What happened with the NAHL franchise though? It was reportedly sold, and the finances used to pay off creditors. Did the sale not take place? Did the money not get used to pay off creditors? Or did the NAHL not approve of the new ownership group?
Gone are all of those free to play roster spots. Competition for NAHL spots just got a lot more crowded, and the NCDC Lewiston Maineiacs just got stronger if they can keep some of those players in the Lewiston Maine area.
How do we celebrate the first of what will be many, many deaths this summer? Maybe with a standing ovation for the end of the Darren Anderson saga.
