Happy Monday kids! I hope everyone had a great weekend like I did. Spent some quality time watching some good hockey this weekend up in the great white north.
It seems like crazy isn’t just limited to the United States these days kids, well at least its not limited to being expressed in the US that is.
I got to see a classic example of a parent ruining any chance their kid has of a hockey career this weekend.
So I am at this game, and one team is beating up on another team pretty good. So its getting close to the end of the third period, and a few kids were just getting walked constantly and the coach sits them. Good coaching move on his part, not because the kids were terrible, but because they were clearly over matched.
So I am hanging out waiting to talk to a player and his parents after the game, and one of the crazies was standing right behind me.
When the coach came out of the room, this person lit into him, in front of everyone. While the coach was continuing to walk away, not allowing himself to get caught up in it, the parent was following him to his car!
Come to find out later that this is the same parent who constantly calls the coach, constantly complains, constantly screams at his kid from the stands, and thinks his kid is going to the show. Yep, you know this parent don’t you?!
This is the same one who blames everyone else for why his kid never makes it. Its the same one who thinks buying little Bobby the newest sticks, skates and top end gear will actually turn him into a player! Yeah we all know this parent don’t we!
So, I stick around and I see the coach later that day and I ask him about the incident. He goes on to tell me that this happens at least once a month with this parent. He tells me about the phone calls, emails, and other ridiculous things. The parent is the but of jokes in the community.
Then he tells me what he thinks of the kid!
He thinks the kid can develop into a player some day, but that he has some things to work on. All very positive comments. Thinks the kid is nice, polite, and his team mates like him. All good stuff.
But ummmmmm yeah about that parent there……..
Yeah well it looks like coach wont be dealing with that parent again. It seems like no matter how good the kid is or will be coach just wont be dealing with that again. Too bad because the rest of the coaches he knows wont take the kid on their team either because of the parent.
Yep, chalk up another player who’s parent screws any chance he has. This was a Midget Minor player, and in December, his parent has scared off all the Midget Major coaches. All that yelling must have been heard by more than just the player huh?
I just love stupid people. I know I am not the only one either. Some people are so stupid they wont even realize what they are doing when someone tells them what they are doing. Ummmmmmm yeah, the stove is hot so don’t touch it again, hey, the stove is hot so don’t touch it again, didn’t you hear me, the stove is hot so don’t touch it again.
I mean seriously kids, I cant believe some of these crazies don’t know they are the nut bags we all talk about! Can you believe they don’t look in the mirror and know we are all laughing at them? I know some people are happy they exist and screw up their kids chances which lets some other kids get a chance. I am willing to bet there is one nut job reading this story and thinking its about someone else!
Just a little advice there mommies and daddies, once your kid gets to the AAA level, just keep your mouth shut and try to be a positive influence.
I really need to start taking pictures of these things. Maybe if we posted mug shots of these offenders people might get a clue. Then again someone would more likely just complain that I didn’t catch their “good side”!
