The Death Pool – Special Report – Can Stupidity Kill More Minnesota Junior Hockey League Teams?

Hey kids, yep we got us another special report!  On the eve of the annual Minnesota Junior Hockey League Showcase, TJHN broke the story that the USPHL is forming a Mid West Division for the 2015-2016 season.

Oh yeah, and the key to that is that it contains the great majority of the current Minnesota Junior Hockey League.  That’s right, a majority.  Not all of them were smart enough to jump on to the USPHL offer.  Several “holdouts” are still trying to maintain the MNJHL as a league.

There is a great reason why too!  Not only do they want to continue to feed their power hungry control freak ego’s, but they want to take the $100,000.00 that’s in the league bank accounts and keep it for themselves!

Yep, they got a lot of money, and if teams leave, according to the one sided alleged rules, the remaining teams can keep the money.  So if you thought money wasn’t important in hockey and “its all about the kids” this really tells you something huh?!

Not making the move are the Rochester Ice Hawks, Steele County Blades, Forest Lake Lakers, and Maple Grove Energy.  Going along with them are the not operating this year Northern Lights.

So four teams in the Minnesota Division, and the entire Central Division are leaving along with two other dark franchise in Fort Wayne and Chicago.

So who made the best move here?  Ummm yeah, well it sure as hell isn’t the idiots who aren’t going to the USPHL.

The USPHL has value, the MNJHL not so much.  The USPHL knows what they are doing when it comes to player development and they put on some awesome showcases, the MNJHL is not even close.

So the MNJHL teams not making the move must have had a conversation like this;

“So if we don’t joint the USPHL we will be the smallest Tier III league in the United States?  Yes that’s right.

And if we don’t make this move we will be isolated in Minnesota where High School hockey is more popular?  Yes that’s right.

And if we don’t make this move we have to compete against the teams that are leaving when recruiting?  Yes that’s right.

And we don’t get the added value that the USPHL brand brings to our franchises?  Yes that’s right.

Alright, so what do we get?

Well we save a lot on travel!  What do you say guys?

Sounds good lets stay on our own.”

Ummmmmmm yeah, does that sound like a conversation out of Dumb and Dumber?

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!  But you know what?  Everyone knew this was coming.  The teams that aren’t going this route simply aren’t smart enough to see why its better for players and better for business, but most important they wont allow themselves to give up control.  Oh yeah and there’s that small item concerning $100,000.00, but hey you know, its all about the kids right?!

Youre gonna love wat Death’s got cookin for Monday!
