Ok kids, I am heading out for the weekend, but I had to hit ya with this beauty of a story. Here in the states we all hear about the NFL’s Redskins logo, and the NHL’s Blackhawks logo. We hear how they are discriminatory and offensive.
I kinda agree. You wouldn’t get away with putting some African Americans on a jersey, or some Asian Americans. Now I could have a hayday with those potential team names, but I am trying to he serious here. Oh yeah and lets not forget the absolutely racist rendering recently changed by the fringe Lake Erie Warriors now the Eagles.
Then we have the Thorold Blackhawks of the GOJHL. A good franchise in a good league with an absolutely offensive logo. Take a peek;
Now, if you don’t find that offensive you probably own the team, played for the team, or you’re just a moron.
Now the team is complaining that it will cost them some money to change the logo and re-brand! Ummmmm yeah, ok boys. But the team has known about the issue since 2013.
So, the City of Thorold has now taken a stand by issuing a statement saying;
“As of June 1st 2017 the use or display of the current Blackhawk logo for any purpose and in any manner, shall be strictly prohibited within the Thorold community arenas.”
Well boys you have known about it for three years, and you have almost ten months left to fix it. Get a clue will ya. So it costs a few thousand bucks to re-brand and get new jerseys. Yep, its gonna suck having to sell everyone new merchandise with the new brand too isn’t it?! Dummies, this is a money making opportunity.
Sometimes I do not even wonder why so many junior teams go out of business. Its amazing how some people get into ownership positions because they are successful in other businesses, yet have no clue. More money then sense is the saying that comes to mind.
So, lets hear it for the City of Thorold for finally forcing this racist logo out. Then again, what took so long?
