Happy Monday kids. I hope everyone had a great weekend, and enjoyed some junior and NHL playoff hockey. This is a great time of year isn’t it?!
So, when a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it does it make a sound? Hell yeah it does. But just in case you missed it this weekend, a tree fell in the woods.
Gone but not forgotten are the Espanola Rivermen and the Batchawana Attack. Ummmmmm yeah, in case you didn’t know who those teams were, your not alone. They were passengers on the train wreck that was the CIHL.
Yep, like a bad fart in church, the CIHL stench continued to linger to April.
But seriously, there were some decent players on the Batchawana team, and Espanola was selling a lot of tickets. All is not lost though kids, the Soo still has the NOJHL, and it looks like the NOJHL will be heading back to Espanola too.
So, lets drag out a couple of body bags, zip them up and toss some dirt on them eh kids?! Pretty damn happy now that the dirt has thawed enough to dig, its back breaking work you know.
So, some would assume that because the these teams are gone, that the CIHL will go down as a small footnote to history. Nope, not so fast kids.
According to the league, they are just taking a year off. Why? Well that’s a simple answer. Take a year off to re-group and try starting an “Academy” hockey league! Ummmmmmm yeah, that sounds brilliant. Yep, the CIHL was so successful last year, that people must be lining up to join a new version.
Not a swipe at any Prep or Academies because its awesome hockey. But, the most important thing all good schools in this vain have is……an ASS LOAD OF MONEY! You don’t simply start an “Academy”, its not that easy kids.
Oh and yeah, one other small item. You cant sell franchises to learning institutions. Yeah, because first of all these “academies” are places for athletes to get an education.
Ohhhhhhh snap. Almost forgot. Don’t you actually need an arena to have your team in? Ummmmmm that NOJHL deal to Espanola would kill that market for an academy, and the Soo needs another hockey program like Aaron Hernandez needs needs a gun and a night out with “friends”. LOL
Well it looks like we got us an early start on the annual team folding frenzy. Man I cant wait until August and September get here, its gonna be another busy year.
