In The Playoff Push, we will take a look at the busiest game days’ most integral games in regards to teams clinching playoffs or clinching specific playoff berths, as we head down the stretch toward the end of the regular season in March.
4 games today, 40 total remaining.
The New England Division teams are idle today. The Bruins clinched fourth place yesterday and will host the New England play-in game, which will likely be played on March 22 at New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Mass.
They won’t know their opponent for a while. With their loss yesterday, the Cyclones (No. 5) are up three points on Twin City (No. 6). Twin City has a game in hand. They play each other twice this weekend.
In the Atlantic Division, every team has four games remaining. P.A.L. (No. 1) hosts the Jersey Hitmen (No. 6), and the Rockets Hockey Club (No. 5) hosts the Connecticut Jr. Rangers (No. 3).
Connecticut have 45 points, the Hitmen 42. A Connecticut loss will clinch second for Mercer and leave four teams in a near dead heat for the last three spots. None of the bottom four can clinch today.
In the Mountain Division, Provo (No. 3) visits Pueblo (No. 5) and Ogden (No. 2) hosts Rock Springs (No. 6). An Ogden win will tie them with Utah for first and leave them with two games in hand. Pueblo needs points, obviously, to keep elimination at bay, but nothing will change in the standings after today’s game.
Tomorrow, all 18 teams are in action.
