THF Weekend Preview: Showcase Momentum…

The opening showcase is in the books. Now, the regular season takes center stage.

After an exciting three days at the New Hampshire Showcase, Tier 1 Hockey Federation teams return to the ice September 11–13 looking to carry that early-season momentum into another weekend of THF hockey.

New Hampshire gave teams their first major test of the 2026-27 season, producing close finishes, overtime thrillers and standout individual performances across the 14U through 18U divisions.

Now, teams begin settling into the season, building chemistry and establishing themselves as the regular-season schedule gets rolling.

Here’s what to know heading into the weekend.

GAME OF THE WEEK: WOODBRIDGE WOLFPACK VS. FLYERS ELITE

The first THF Game of the Week of the regular season hits the ice Friday night.

Friday night’s matchup gives both Woodbridge and Flyers Elite an early opportunity to set the tone as the THF shifts from showcase action into the regular-season schedule.

The Flyers Elite squad comes into the weekend after being tested against a strong field at the New Hampshire Showcase, where they faced some of the league’s top 18U competition and gained valuable early-season experience. Woodbridge now provides a fresh challenge as both sides look to establish consistency, build chemistry and pick up an important result early in the year. With two 18U programs meeting under the spotlight and the season just beginning to take shape, it’s a fitting matchup to open this year’s THF Game of the Week schedule.

Fans who can’t make it to Pennsauken won’t have to miss the action. The matchup will be streamed FREE live on Black Bear TV, no subscription required!

COMING OFF A WILD WEEKEND IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

If last weekend was any indication, there should be plenty of competitive hockey ahead.

The New Hampshire Showcase brought together 48 teams for 93 games across four divisions. Of those 93 games, 22 were decided by just one goal and five required overtime.

At 14U, no team made it through the showcase unbeaten, with Cyclones Academy ultimately taking the championship.

PAL Jr. Islanders delivered one of the weekend’s strongest performances at 16U, going a perfect 5-0 and finishing the weekend as showcase champions. The Islanders carried that success into 18U as well, going 4-0-1, while Team Maryland ultimately took home the 18U championship.

The showcase provided the first big measuring stick of the season. This weekend brings the next opportunity to build on it.

SETTLING INTO THE SEASON

Showcase weekends offer a unique challenge: multiple games, unfamiliar opponents and little time between puck drops.

Now the rhythm changes.

As teams transition back into the regular-season schedule, the focus shifts toward consistency. Early results begin to matter, chemistry continues to develop and teams get their first opportunity to turn a strong opening weekend into sustained momentum.

For teams looking to bounce back from New Hampshire, this weekend presents a fresh opportunity. For those that started fast, it’s a chance to keep rolling.

It’s early, but the season is officially underway.
