Timmins answers Rayside-Balfour in quick order in 7-3 win

TIMMINS, Ont. – Jordan Rendle tallied twice while Aaron Kerr and Bain Cunningham had a goal and two assists each to help the Timmins Rock roll over the Rayside-Balfour Canadians 7-3 Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at McIntyre Arena.

A Tristan Salesse power play maker staked Timmins to the lead just past the five-minute mark of the contest.

Rendle made it 2-0 later in the session before the Canadians countered with a man advantage effort from Brody Brunet with 1:19 left in the first.

The Rock got that back with 22 seconds left in the frame on a Cunningham effort.

Brennan Maguire made it 4-1 Timmins five minutes into the second while Matt Neault matched that for Rayside-Balfour at 8:47.

Once again the Rock came back with a quick strike to regain the momentum as Rendle’s second of the evening put the hosts up 5-2 through 40 minutes of play.

Ryan Erickson brought the Canadians within two at 3:10 of the third, but Timmins answered yet again courtesy of Kerr just over two minutes later.

Jared Hester then added some insurance for the Rock with a man advantage effort with 8:26 to go as he rounded out the evening’s scoring.

Logan Ferrington made 28 saves to pick-up the win for Timmins.

Jessie Morin played the first two periods for Rayside-Balfour and suffered the loss giving up five against on 26 attempts.

MacKenzie stopped 14 of 16 in third period relief for the Canadians.
