Timmins comes back to double up Espanola 4-2

TIMMINS, Ont. – Despite being behind by two goals early the Timmins Rock got rolling in the latter stages of the second period en route to skating to a 4-2 decision over the Espanola Express Friday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at McIntyre Arena.

Upstart Espanola got off to a perfect road start as they grabbed a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes on efforts supplied by Ian Thompson and Aaron Beauchamp.

The score stayed that way until the 13:24 mark of the middle session when Bain Cunningham’s power play tally got Timmins on the board.

A couple shifts later Timmins picked up the equalizer off the stick of Jared Hester to tie it a 2-2 entering the third.

In the final frame Cunningham picked up the eventual game-winner 49 seconds into the session.

The Rock then got some insurance with 16 minutes to go thanks to Ryan Theriault.

Zachary Kercz doled out three assists to aid in Timmins’ triumph.

Shots on goal favoured the Rock 36-24 with Matthew Nixon earning the win in net and Mitchell Jones suffering the loss.
