Timmins holds on to edge Cochrane

TIMMINS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock got two goals and a pair of assists from Zachary Kercz to help them earn a 6-5 victory over the Cochrane Crunch Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at McIntyre Arena.

Both sides tallied twice in the opening period with the Rock getting markers from Tristan Salesse and Jordan Rendle with Dustin Cordeiro and Seamus Maguire countering for the Crunch.

Kercz gave Timmins the lead 36 seconds into the middle frame while Bain Cunningham added to the cushion at 9:49.

Jeran Knorr added one for the Crunch a half minute later, but Ryan Theriault and Kercz clicked 18 seconds apart to put the Rock up 6-3 through two periods of play.

The visitors pulled closer with 11:53 remaining on a Jeremy McNeil effort and added one final goal in the late going from Knorr to round out the scoring.

Salesse also dished out three assists for a four-point afternoon for the Rock.

Logan Ferrington finished with 42 saves to record the win for Timmins.

Brett Young saw 30 shots fired his way in defeat for Cochrane.
