Timmins strikes late to defeat Iroquois Falls

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – A Bain Cunnigham goal with less than three minutes remaining saw the Timmins Rock rally for a 5-4 victory over the Iroquois Falls Eskis Friday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest held at Jus Jordan Arena.

Iroquois Falls grabbed a quick 2-0 lead before the match-up was five minutes old as Jacob Erwin and Tanner Bowditch both found the back of the net on Timmins starter Logan Ferrington.

The Rock did get one back before the first was complete thanks to an Aaron Kerr effort at 17:29.

Bowditch added his second of the evening early in the middle session to put the Eskis back up a pair, but Timmins countered with a pair of power play tallies by Ryan Kerr and Ryan Theriault to knot the affair at 3-3 entering the third.

Iroquois Falls retook the lead once again 6:32 into the final frame on a Blake Hollowaty effort, however the Rock tied it with just over nine minutes remaining thank to Devin Panzeca’s equalizer.

Then with overtime drawing ever closer, Timmins won it late on a Cunningham unassisted effort with 2:40 remaining in regulation to give the visitors the two points on the night.

Marco Luciani had three assists in a losing cause while Ryan Kerr and Aaron Kerr picked up two helpers apiece for the winning side.

Ferrington finished with 36 saves in earning the victory for the Rock.

Joe Sheppard was shelled with 50 shots in the setback for the Eskis.
