Timmins too much for Espanola

ESPANOLA, Ont. – The Timmins Rock used a spread out offensive outburst getting goals from five different skaters to help them defeat the Espanola Express 5-1 Friday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Regional Recreation Complex.

Timmins got going early in this one jumping out to a 2-0 lead after one period of play getting goals from Zachary Kercz three minutes into the contest and another courtesy of Wayne Mathieu with 52 seconds left in the stanza.

The Rock used special teams to extend their cushion to three thanks to Devin Panzeca’s power play marker at the 16-minute plateau of the middle session.

Mitchal Payette’s first NOJHL goal 19 seconds into the third helped energize the Express, but late man advantage efforts by Timmins’ Cole Gilligan and Joe Olson iced it for the visitors.

Bain Cunningham and Mikael Rancourt dished out two assists apiece to help the Rock offensively in the victory.

Espanola outshot Timmins 36-34 on the night with Matthew Nixon picking up the win while Aaron Callan suffered the setback.
