Timmins tops Iroquois Falls 7-4

TIMMINS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock scored three times in each of the first two periods to help them eventually top the Iroquois Falls Eskis 7-4 Wednesday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at McIntyre Arena.

Iroquois Falls did get on the board first in this one as Jake Speer picked up his third of the season four and a half minutes into the contest.

Timmins countered that by tacking on three of their own, starting with Tristan Salesse’s 15th of the campaign at 6:29.

Kyle Levis put the hosts up 2-1 at 17:43 while Bain Cunnigham made it 3-1 with just eight seconds left in the stanza.

After the Eskis’ Mario Luciani picked one up via the power play 5:12 into the second to pull the visitors closer, the Rock continued started to roll notching a trio of markers off the sticks of Jordan Rendle, Cunningham and Wayne Mathieu to go up 6-2 after 40 minutes.

Michael Rancourt extended the Timmins cushion just past the five-minute mark of the third.

Iroquois Falls added a man advantage effort from Tanner Bowditch and an even strength tally courtesy of David Osborne to round out the night’s scoring.

Joe Olson had two assists to help the Rick’s cause.

Shots on net favoured Timmins 37-35 with Matthew Nixon picking up the win and Joe Sheppard the loss.
