TIMMINS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock jumped on the French River Rapids for four goals in the second half of the first period and never trailed as they skated to their third straight Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory winning 9-3 Friday at McIntyre Arena.
It was scoreless past the midway point of the opening stanza before the Rock struck four times in under a seven-minute span to take early control of the contest.
Devin Panzeca supplied the first one for Timmins at 10:39, which was followed by a Tristan Salesse marker at 13:22.
Two minutes later Panzeca added his second of the stanza while Bain Cunningham made it 4-0 at 17:31.
After Salesse notched another for the home side with his 19th tally of the season at 6:45 of the second, French River stormed back with three goals of their own before the middle session was complete to make it a 5-3 game after 40 minutes.
Brennan Kelly’s ninth got the Rapids going at 8:19 before Caleb Rich, via the power play, and Ian Robbie, shorthanded, pulled the visitors to within two entering the third.
Timmins put the game away in the final period however tacking on four more goals off the sticks of Andrew Castagna, Zachary Kercz, Cunningham and Wayne Mathieu to wrap things up.
Jordan Rendle had three assists for the Rock in the triumph with teammates Kercz and Kealey Cummings both supplying two helpers apiece.
Shots on goal in the contest favoured Timmins 41-26 with Logan Ferrington picking up the win and Zach Mills the loss.
