Toronto Jr. Canadiens edge Don Mills Flyers to capture 2025 OHL Cup Championship

Toronto, ON – Friday night at Mattamy Athletic Centre, the wildcard Toronto Jr. Canadiens beat the Don Mills Flyers 3-2 to capture the 2025 OHL Cup Championship, winning their second championship in the last three years.

Opening up the scoring under a minute into the game, Jax Pereira (3) gave the Jr. Canadiens the lead off a pass from forward Sam Roberts on the two on one. Don Mills provided a quick response with goals from Tyler Lee (2) and Evan Nicholson (5) to put the Flyers ahead. Top prospect Camryn Warren (6) brought Toronto back even after scooping up the loose puck in front tying the game at two heading into the second.

A scoreless second period saw JRC goaltender Hudson Cicchelli make 12 of his 31 saves to keep the game tied. It would remain knotted at two until under two minutes to play, where Warren fed a puck cross ice to Fischer Ishwaran (1) for the game winning goal.

Participating in his second OHL Cup, with the assist on the game winner Warren tied an OHL Cup record for points all-time in the tournament. “Both tournaments have been so great, but my teammates in both years have been unbelievable to help me get to this point. This group here we never gave up, and it feels so good to get the job done,” said Warren discussing the record.

Making some highlight reel saves in the game Cicchelli spoke about the effort in the game saying, “Our group really came together as a family, the defence in front of me was strong and I was fortunate enough to make the saves when I had to.”

“Only the guys in this room believed in us, we knew we could do it the whole way so to get it done was amazing,” said top prospect Keaton Ardagh discussing the meaning of winning an OHL Cup to his team.

When his team beat Little Caesars in the semi-finals, Head Coach Matthew Viola spoke about the adversity his team has gone through throughout the year. After the final he discussed the journey and meaning to go from wildcard to champions, “Three and a half weeks ago we sat down as a group and I said everybody’s counted you out . Are your ready to put the work in? Everybody put the work in and it’s a testament to these guys and the whole team to become OHL Cup Champions.”

Don Mills finishes a great season winning the Toronto Titans Prospects Tournament, Toronto Marlboros Holiday Classic, Oakville Rangers Winter Classic, and a GTHL Championship. Defenceman Caden Bell, Charlie Sullivan and goaltender Noah La Gambina were named to the Gatorade All-Star team.

Forwards Camryn Warren was named 2025 OHL Cup MVP as well as to the Gatorade All-Star team, joining teammate Noah Laus.

After earning their win into the tournament with a win over Ottawa Myers Automotive in a wildcard play-in game, the Jr. Canadiens went on to finish first in the Subban Division losing only once to the York Simcoe Express. In the playoff round, Toronto would win two close games against the Ottawa Valley Titans and Detroit Little Caesars to advance to the final against Don Mills, eventually improving to 6-1 en route to an OHL Cup championship.
