USPHL Elite Players Of The Week: South Region

Southeast Division 

Forward: Kayden Suy, Potomac Patriots 

Suy (‘05/Gainesville, Va.) was the most generous player you could find at the USPHL Florida College Showcase, dishing out eight assists in the four games, over which the Patriots went 3-1-0-0. He has 33 points in 26 games this year, and he had 47 points through 57 career games. 

 

Defense: Nikolai Shevchenko, Potomac Patriots 

Shevchenko (‘07/Kaliningrad, Russia) put up three goals and three assists for six points, helping to power the Pats’ success in Estero, Fla. He has 17 points in 29 games for this season. 

 

Goaltender: Owen Nasholds, Carolina Jr. Hurricanes 

Nasholds (‘07/Raleigh, N.C.) registered a pair of wins in Florida, helping the Jr. Canes to a 3-1-0-0 record and sole possession of first place in the Southeast at the break. He had two straight shutouts in Florida with 2-0, and that was his second and third straight shutouts. He is 10-4-0-1 with five shutouts.

 

Florida Division 

Forward: Joshua Mason, Florida Jr. Blades

The third-year Jr. Blade Mason (‘07/Toronto, Ont.) was extremely productive for his team in the Jr. Blades’ home facility that was host to the USPHL Florida College Showcase. He scored seven goals and three assists for 10 points in four games. He has a career-best 24 points already in 11 games this year. He has 55 points in 72 games. 

 

Defense: Carter Trussler, Tampa Bay Juniors 

Trussler (‘06/Land O’ Lakes, Fla.) put up a strong goal and two assists for three points in the four games. He has 65 points in 103 games for his three-year USPHL career. 

 

Goaltender: Shane Passaro, Tampa Bay Juniors 

Passaro (‘04/Palm Springs, Calif.) registered a pair of wins during the Florida College Showcase, stopping 73 out of 78 shots in Estero. This included a 36-save shutout against the Charlotte Rush, as well. Passaro is now 9-1-0-0 with a .936 save percentage for this season and a 22-5-0-0 record.

Selection Process: Divisional statistical leaders are presented to coaches, who are able to vote on the leaders, or nominate and vote on alternate candidates.
